GEORGETOWN, S.C., May 04, 2021 – Capt. Daniel DeCaro, Georgetown native and former hired captain for TowBoatUS Georgetown, the on-water assistance service for recreational boaters, is the new owner of the company. DeCaro purchased the business from his former boss, Capt. Ronnie Campbell, who first hired DeCaro in 2010 as a mate. The company provides professional 24/7 on-water towing, soft ungrounding, battery jump and fuel drop-off services. Joining DeCaro is his wife, Denise, who will handle the company’s bookkeeping.

DeCaro had been running the towing port location for the past several years, and purchasing it was the logical next step when the company became available. “I love what I do,” said DeCaro. “It’s not the same old. It’s always different. Seeing the reaction on a customer’s face after I’ve gotten them safely home makes my day.”

DeCaro grew up on Winyah Bay and owned his first boat at age 16. By age 20 he had a fleet of two shrimpers running out of Georgetown and later ran a successful charter business. He knows the region’s waters well — and also how boaters can get into trouble there. “We see the standard issues, like engine troubles or dead batteries, but there’s more. In spring and fall, boaters unfamiliar with local waters on the Intracoastal Waterway can run aground on shifting shoals. The Winyah Bay Entrance can also be challenging to those heading offshore or anytime we have combination of an onshore wind and a falling tide.”

TowBoatUS Georgetown is part of a nationwide network of more than 300 TowBoatUS ports and 600 towing response vessels across the country that responded to over 80,000 requests for routine assistance last year. BoatUS offers on-water Unlimited Towing Memberships for freshwater boaters and anglers for just $90 per year. Boaters without BoatUS towing services face costs averaging $750 per towing incident, with some paying more.

Included with Unlimited Towing membership are more than 25 Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) benefits and discounts, a subscription to BoatUS Magazine, free DSC-VHF radio registration, and more.

The company’s two 25-foot red response vessels with “TowBoatUS” in big white letters on the side are stationed at the town dock. Both are fully rigged for towing and salvage and carry extra fuel for drop-offs. All of the company’s towing captains are U.S. Coast Guard-licensed. Separate from BoatUS towing services, the company offers boat salvage and dive services.

The fastest way to summon assistance from TowBoatUS Georgetown is to download the free BoatUS App, which connects boaters to the closest local towing captain in less than a minute. Additionally, the company can be reached at 843-318-1974, by hailing on VHF channel 16, or by phoning the BoatUS toll-free 24/7 Dispatch Center at 800-391-4869.
